All Change!
Here you can make a model where the passengers in a bus change places using a drawing of a 1940s bus as the template.
Print out the template onto 200 gsm A4 white card.
- 2 sheets of A4 white 200 gsm card per model
- Scissors
- 2 paper fasteners (split pins)per model
- Single hole punch
- Stapler and staples
- Colouring crayons
Using the 1940s 'Bus template' colour the bus in before you cut it out. Have a look at some of the images in the Gallery for ideas about transport during World War 2. There were many new pieces of technology being designed to help the war effort.

- Cut carefully around the vehicle shape
- Very carefully cut out the driver’s window at the front and the middle passenger window
- You then need to cut out the two wheel shapes
- On the wheel shape with three windows draw a different miniature person in each of the windows
- Think who might be travelling on the bus. Then draw your driver on the wheel shape with one window
- Carefully push a paper fastener through the first hole on the bus and place the driver wheel behind, secure by splitting the paper fastener open, (put a small piece of tape over the pin backs to stop them catching). The paper fasteners are the pivots.
- Then do the same again with the second wheel shape
- Rotate the wheels to change the passengers
You could also design a landscape on another piece of card
- Staple a length of card to the front and back of your bus and cut two slots at each side of your landscape
- Slide the strip of card from front to back through the slots and you can make you bus move (slide) across your background
Always make sure that children know how to use scissors and staplers in a safe way or supervise if unsure. Any cutting involving a blade should be done on a safety cutting mat and by an adult, although children should be allowed to see what happens from a safe distance. All cutting equipment should be kept in a safe place and not left unattended.
