Now have a go at designing your own. Think about what it will carry and how you are going to unload the goods. Use a storyboard to work out the making sequence.

  • The body of the truck could be made from construction kits, junk modelling materials or built from scratch in a material of your choice.

  • Think about which parts of the body will move and what type of pneumatic system is going to work best. You may choose to inflate a balloon to tip the truck body or fix the syringe plunger to move it up and down.

  • Don’t forget to decide which side of the truck the goods will be unloaded from as this will decide where the body is hinged.

  • Once you have made your model test it out, make any changes and decide what works well and what needs rethinking.
