Tip-up Trucks
Large trucks can be designed to carry anything including food, cars, petrol, wet cement and furniture.
Loose loads such as sand, gravel, tarmac and aggregate for building roads are carried in tip trucks. By tipping up its load bed at an angle, these trucks can empty an entire load in seconds.
This is a very early type of steam driven tip-up truck from the 1920s. Modern tip trucks use hydraulic fluid pumped at very high pressure through tubes to raise their load beds.
Have a look in 'Road Transport History' to find out more about trucks.
